Why do I start my day with coffee and intentions?
It’s easy to catch yourself between a strong mind and fragile heart. That sums up the strength we are expected to find when our heart feels like it’s broken. This expectation is exhausting when you think about your road ahead and how long you are expected to be strong. It seems like a long time, and it is, but the strong mind reassures you that you must find a way to travel the long road in a different way that will make it more bearable and doable. That way of thinking stands for many circumstances, not just death and loss. I can think of many times in life that have required a strong mind for a fragile heart and in some way when you think you’ve had enough, your path simply appears, and you continue to travel the road in a different way to make it more bearable.
This is why I start each day configuring a strong mind. When the weather cooperates and the sun is shining, I find myself sitting on the back patio with a cup of coffee surrounded with my new plants of the season and the sound of the birds. I take time for just me to clear my head and to meditate or sit quietly. If you practice this long enough, your mind will train itself to find a bit of happiness, to heal old wounds, and to discover new paths that you hadn’t thought of before. Some days you don’t think of anything, and other days, a gem appears before you. If you are feeling caught between a strong mind and a fragile heart, stop for a few minutes, close your eyes, breathe some deep breaths, and try this technique. Coffee with Intentions gives me a bit of a jumpstart to my day.
XO,
Alison
