My name is Alison Mills Monrean and welcome to Burt and Company. Burt is the son I lost in a tragedy and company is everyone he left behind. In that truth, my site is focused on a lifestyle that I am building as I am finding the new me through that loss. The lifestyle is based on strength, spirituality, and finding a piece of happiness through putting one foot in front of the other as I re-learn what it means to live life without Burt. The journey is long, the story is tragic, and the life lessons learned are a gift. ARE THERE RAINBOWS on the journey? I am sure of it. If you weather the storm when it hits, it can be a small relief with a rainbow on the other side. You learn that dealing with the triggers might be one step closer to a smaller storm the next time. The storm hits when you don’t expect it and that’s tough. For me, it can be a song that I hear, the sound of a dirt bike, a meal that I cook, a routine that I miss, a closed door with everything behind it, something new that I want you to see, a feeling I need validated, or a hug I have become accustomed to for 16 years. It’s a picture of you being you, the look in someone else’s eyes that misses you, the twinkies that don’t get eaten or the ice cream I no longer buy, the soaking wet bathroom floor, the farm clothes that don’t get washed day after day and only having two people to tell where I am. Those things that seem small can put you into a tailspin because they were you and they were me. It’s like the two eagles I see above the house when I am outside every day that fly together and one goes to the other and they stick together no matter what. They stay in the same area because it feels like home. That’s you and me. Weather the storms, look for your rainbows, and don’t get caught up in the what if it doesn’t pass. It’s how you teach yourself to cope with the storms that hit that get you through it and this is a lesson in most things in life. It’s always a storm but there are rainbows. I have been fighting since I was a child. I am not a survivor. I am a Warrior.
