YOUNGEST CHILD SYNDROME
My version of the term…
Research says these are the traits of the youngest child: they are social, charming, outgoing, uncomplicated, manipulative, seeks attention, self-centered, and fun.
Are you kidding me!!! Here’s what I say -We are loud because no one ever heard us period. We are extremely independent because there were always way too many people talking at the same time in the house and we like peace and quiet, therefore, we always went off by ourselves! And honestly, spending time in solitude is when I’ve done my best work in finding answers, I will definitely keep doing this. The youngest children are mean because we got picked on most of our childhood and we are cautious because we fell for the “do this, you won’t get in trouble” trick, being set up by our siblings’ way too many times. We became accustomed to the phrase, “Keep crying, and I’ll give you something to cry about.” How many times have you heard that growing up? Every child heard that, regardless of the birth order!
We are sensitive to other people’s feelings because we grew up feeling like we were last for everything, but we are highly sensitive people when it comes to anything that comes our way. We grow into very direct people- what you see is what you get, and small talk will never be our thing. Lastly, we are strong and persevere because within us builds a lion that always guards its territory.
Each stage of life has presented different challenges but when I get knocked down, I get back up; when I am sad, I push through it; and luckily, I’ve always been able to see the path when life has handed me so-called lemons. I am discovering the true meaning of not knowing how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. Feels like a really long road my friends.
Check out the graphic at the top. Does your birth order description match your story? And tell me this… who’s the middle child amongst four kids? Beats me, I have the youngest child syndrome 😊.
That’s my story.
XO,
Alison
Me too! I am a social person and enjoy being around others. However, I need my quiet and alone time. There are days I don’t want to communicate with others because I am mentally exhausted.
